Additional Information: 

Advanced Placement programs were adopted in the U.S. in 1956 and are administered by the College Board, a not-for-profit association of secondary and higher education organizations offering programs related to college admission (including the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), assessment, financial aid, and enrollment.
