Academic language students experience in school. CALP develops over a five to seven year period in the language acquisition of English (or foreign) language learners.
Additional Information:
CALP is more cognitivelly challenging than BICS in language acquisition, and is understood as a requirement for school success. See basic interpersonal communication skills.
